Anomalous behavior of the surface state in ferromagnetic superconductors

The effect of the electromagnetic interaction between the persistent current and the magnetic moments to the surface state in ferromagnetic superconductors is studied theoretically. This interaction causes an oscillatory decay of the penetrated magnetic field near the magnetic phase transition temperature. Below a critical temperature, the spontaneous surface magnetization is stabilized by the magnetic field induced by the surface persistent current.     

Modified graessley theory for non-newtonian viscosities of polydimethylsiloxanes and their solutions

A deviation from Graessley's theory of entanglement viscosity appears at very high shear rates when the flow of polydimethylsiloxanes of various molecular weights and their solutions with various concentrations is measured by the capillary method. In order to explain this deviation, a modified Graessley theory is proposed according to the previously reported suggestion that frictional viscosity appears not to be negligible at high shear rates. A reducing procedure taking a frictional viscosity parameter into account was performed. All of the reduced data are combined to give a master curve in spite of a wide range of molecular weight, concentration, and shear rate (from the lower Newtonian to very highest non-Newtonian flow region). The findings from the reducing procedure completely explain the mechanism of non-Newtonian flow for the bulk polymers with various molecular weights, including those below the critical molecular weight for entanglement, and for polymer solutions at any concentration. The viscosity of the linear polymer system consists of the shear-dependent entanglement term η_ent proposed by Graessley and the shear-independent frictional term η_fric. The non-Newtonian behavior depends on the ratio of η_ent/η_fric at the shear rate of measurement. The ratio of zero-shear entanglement viscosity η_ent,0 to η_fric and the critical shear rate for onset of the non-Newtonian flow may be used as a measure of the non-Newtonian behavior of the system and a measure of capability for its rising, respectively. The Graessley theory is to be included in the present modified theory and is applicable to the case of η_entη_fric ? 1.     

Time-resolved spectrum for resonant light scattering in an exciton-phonon system

A formula is given for the time-resolved spectrum of the resonantly- scattered radiation from an exciton-phonon system, and it is applied to the calculation of two-LO-phonon assisted spectrum. Both the Raman component associated with virtual intermediate states and the luminescence with real intermediate states are obtained. A Raman-like component with an oscillatory behavior can be seen, when the exciton relaxation time is shorter than the excitation pulse duration. It is proposed that the energy dependence of exciton relaxation rate can be directly measured from the time decay of a hot luminescence spectrum.     

Rhodium(III)-catalyzed synthesis of isoquinolines from aryl ketone O-acyloxime derivatives and internal alkynes

A synthetic method of isoquinolines from aryl ketone O-acyloxime derivatives and internal alkynes has been developed using [Cp*RhCl(2)](2)-NaOAc as the potential catalyst system. The present transformation is carried out by a redox-neutral sequence of C-H vinylation via ortho-rhodation and C-N bond formation of the putative vinyl rhodium intermediate on the oxime nitrogen, where the N-O bond of oxime derivatives could work as an internal oxidant to maintain the catalytic cycle.     

Physicochemical properties and plastic crystal structures of phosphonium fluorohydrogenate salts

Fluorohydrogenate salts of quaternary phosphonium cations with alkyl and methoxy groups (tetraethylphosphonium (P(2222)(+)), triethyl-n-pentylphosphonium (P(2225)(+)), triethyl-n-octylphosphonium (P(2228)(+)), and triethylmethoxymethylphosphonium (P(222(101))(+))) have been synthesized by the metatheses of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride and the corresponding phosphonium bromide or chloride precursors. The three salts with asymmetric cations, P(222m)(FH)(2.1)F (m = 5, 8, and 101), are room temperature ionic liquids (ILs) and are characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, density, viscosity, and conductivity measurements. Linear sweep voltammetry using a glassy carbon working electrode shows these phosphonium fluorohydrogenate ILs have wide electrochemical windows (>4.9 V) with the lowest viscosity and highest conductivity in the known phosphonium-based ILs. Thermogravimetry shows their thermal stabilities are also improved compared to previously reported alkylammonium cation-based fluorohydrogenate salts. Differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction revealed that tetraethylphosphonium fluorohydrogenate salt, P(2222)(FH)(2)F, exhibits two plastic crystal phases. The high temperature phase has a hexagonal lattice, which is the first example of a plastic crystal phase with an inverse nickel arsenide-type structure, and the low-temperature phase has an orthorhombic lattice. The high-temperature plastic crystal phase exhibits a conductivity of 5 mS cm(-1) at 50 °C, which is the highest value for the neat plastic crystals.     

Anti-allergic effect of the flavonoid myricitrin from Myrica rubra leaf extracts in vitro and in vivo

Flavonoids are ingested by the general population as anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory agents. In this study, we investigated the effects of myricitrin, a flavonoid rich in Myrica rubra leaf, upon anti-inflammatory action. Myrica rubra leaf extracts inhibited pro-inflammatory TNFα production in a macrophage cell line, Raw264.7 cells. We observed that the serum IgE levels in the leaf extract-treated DO11.10, a mouse allergy model, were down-regulated. HPLC was performed to demonstrate that M. rubra leaf extracts contain a large amount of myricitrin. We observed an inhibitory effect of HPLC-purified myricitrin on TNFα production in Raw264.7 cells. Thus, myricitrin may be of potential interest in the management of inflammatory conditions.     

A tertiary amine as a hydride donor: trichlorosilyl triflate-mediated conjugate reduction of unsaturated ketones

Bulky tertiary amines, especially dicyclohexylisobutylamine, smoothly reduced α,β-unsaturated ketones in the presence of trichlorosilyl triflate to give the corresponding saturated ketones in excellent yields. Isotope-labeling studies revealed that an α-hydrogen of the amine was transferred to the enones during reduction.
